Phil's Salesforce Tip of the Week

Welcome to my Salesforce Tip of the Week #484

Tip 1 – Free App of the Week

Free App

Thanks Rhiannon for this review of the Free Salesforce Labs app called ‘CSV2’:

“This is an ideal alternative for data import and data loader if you are importing to a single object and don’t require advanced field mapping.

So long as the CSV has the field API names specified as the column headers you can drag and drop, and new records are created. Get the name wrong and an error message will briefly appear as a ‘toast’ popup. As an admin you can lock down to which objects items can be uploaded. The only limits are 10k records or a CSV file size of 2.5MB.

Beware – this doesn’t operate as an upsert, so you run the risk of duplicate records if this is not used properly, and the ‘drop files here’ space is on the small side.”

Tip 2 – Reading List

This is definitely not a ‘productivity book’, not a ‘how to do more stuff in less time’ book… It is a great read though! How should we spend our ‘approx 4000 weeks’ on this earth in the best way possible. Advice we all need, right? Take a look here.

Tip 3 – Happy New Year!

Whatever you get up, I hope you have a safe an enjoyable NYE, and here is to an even safer New Year. Hold on, I feel I said that last year…

OK 2022 will be the good one! Happy New Year!

Slack First – Phil’s Salesforce Tip of the Week #456

Welcome to my Salesforce Tip of the Week #456

Tip 1 – Weekend

This weekend is an enforced ‘No Trailblazer‘ weekend, possibly to allow us all to watch the Euro 2020? With England playing Scotland is a crucial game this evening, and Wales facing Italy on Sunday, there’s plenty to keep us (in the UK) entertained.

Planned maintenance means it is down for most of Saturday and Sunday, so no Answers, Groups, Ideas, etc. etc.. I hope you find something good to do this weekend, be it watching the football, enjoying some family time, or much needed me time!

Tip 2 – Free App of the Week

Introducing ‘SoundBoardForce‘ – a free App where you can send sounds/clips to another User. It’s available on Salesforce Labs and AppExchange. Accordingly to the listing AppExchange, one of the highlights is that you can ‘send dumb sounds to other people!’. You can also ‘send sounds anonymously! Send sounds schmanonymously!’…

Ok so it won’t fix all your Salesforce problems, but it looks like fun. And it does have functionality to mute and block!

Tip 3 – Slack First

Marc Benioff’s message I assume is not ‘Slack first, work later’ (although he is taking a digital break for a couple of months!). More specifically he said “We’re going to rebuild all of our technology, once again, to become Slack-first“. It is not clear what this will entail, or how big a task it is, but it is clear that Slack is viewed as a major part of Salesforce going forward.

No Virtual Dreamforce 2020? – Phil’s Salesforce Tip of the Week #412

In an interview this week Marc Benioff suggested that there may be no Dreamforce this year, of any kind. It would be a shame of course, I have some great memories of time spent at DF, but maybe this is a chance to redesign it? Lets be honest, it’s too busy, too big for the location, and only will get busier and bigger.

Benioff Dreamforce 2020

Like many I have been anticipating that there would be some sort of virtual event this year in place of the in person event. Let’s see what the next few weeks and months bring!

In other news…

Auto add fields to report types

Ever edited a report and struggled to find a field? It can be a massive headache, usually caused by a Custom Report Type being built before the Custom Field was created. Thank you to North England Community co-leader Clare Ramsaran for sharing this… “Beta in Winter ‘21: when a new field is created it will be automatically added to all associated report types” hoorah!
