Salesforce Labs – Phil’s Salesforce Tip of the Week #459

Phil's Salesforce Tip of the Week

Welcome to my Salesforce Tip of the Week #459

Tip 1 – Salesforce Labs Day

Salesforce Labs

Next Thursday 20th July is ‘Salesforce Labs Day’, and you know I love free Apps! There are six sessions, over two hours, in two different time zones. I can safely say you will find out about at least one free App that you will end up using in your Org. Plus there are tonnes of prizes, so register here now.

Tip 2 – Where is this used?

Thanks to our Senior Developer Rhiannon for this!

Sometimes as developers we need to know where certain fields are used across the platform before we can make changes to them. Here’s a couple of ways to assist in the process. For custom fields you can use the ‘Where is this used?’ button, available via the Field page in the Object Manager. Here you’ll see the code and metadata with potential dependencies on that field.

But what about standard fields? This functionality is not currently available. Here are a few ideas that should help refine your search. In the developer console, use CTRL ALT H to open the search. This will allow you to search the code base for a text reference. To search for references in other metadata types you’ll need to write a query to the MetadataComponentDependency object. Dhanik Lal Sahni has written a post to show you how.

Finally, if you are a VS Code user, you can always search there: using CTRL ALT F will open up the Tree Search and find all the references in code and metadata you have stored locally.

Tip 3 – Team GB

Team GB

At Salesforce Live UKI this week, an exciting new partnership was announced between Salesforce and Team GB. The press release says:

Salesforce will engage millions of fans around the world, building the most engaging fan community in sports for Great Britain. Salesforce will partner with Team GB, and use data to create hubs and visualizations, to help engage fans. Through Trailhead, Salesforce will also partner with Team GB athletes, to help with reskilling during and post their athletic careers.”
